Regarding Hebert's thesis: "protest to this idea of a culture of misogyny and I think it speaks to some of the arguments that feminists have been trying to make with regard to cultural appropriation, relativism and clear ignorance to the role of US backed mistreatment of women, world-wide. Hebert's thesis echoes the drumbeat of self-pity that has been coming out of pale o-feminist groups and woman's studies departments for decades: America, in their view, is a country where "barbaric treatment of women has come to be more accepted," where we are all so inured to the victimization of the female half of the population that we don't even notice it anymore. ?Difficult to explain where this argument is heading but I am gathering that the commenter is saying that you should be darn happy to be a woman in America in today's global society.William
